Why Assam is protesting against #CAB
CAB: the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, passed in December 2019. The Parliament of India amended the Citizenship Act of 1955 to grant a citizenship status to the Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, Parsis and Christians from Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Pakistan, who entered India before 31st of December 2014. Why Assam is reacting: The earlier date was 1951 for the rest of India and 1971 for Assam. Assam was already bearing the burnt of 20 long years as compared to the rest of India. Does the rest of India even understand how many more of migrants are already considering Assam to be their home due to that 20 years difference? Do you understand how the Indigenous people are suffering? Do you understand that the illegal migrants are known as ‘mia’ and we, are known as ‘Axomia’. Do you know that these illegal migrants have made a mockery of our ‘Axomia’ culture and that very word and says that Assam means ‘Assam for mia’. Seriously? Do you understand that we fear we would lose our identity
