Racism in India!

Image
Yes, Indians are racists! Though they would cry out loud when someone in a foreign country try to act racial against them! But believe me, the same people would be found to be most biased and intolerant for even other fellow Indians! I am from the North East side of the Indian territory. And believe me none other than us must have faced more partiality from our very own counterparts in the rest on India! And when this, its no joke! Although in looks, I do not have small eyes, typical with people of the North East India. Hence I have fared well in most of the places I stayed at. I first faced racist comment when one of my extended family member of the Punjabi clan I am married to, asked me where I am from. The expression on her face and her words "Oh! I thought so!" pierced through my heart. All this, because we belong to a land they do not understand where! We seem to be aliens to them. No matter I am much qualified than most of them literally are. No matter I look bette...

Evils in Indian Society!

Image
We are in the twenty first century and still there are so many traditions and thoughts prevalent in the societies that can suck out humanity from any sensible person's mind! Few things I have seen in my time till now, have sort of put me into thinking if everyone in the world is having such thoughts  or something is extraordinarily special about our place, India! India, the sacred land, where women had been considered as next to God! The place where there is no bound to religion. A secular country that India is! However, somethings are fundamental in the very existence of the societies here. Some evils which need to be eradicated. I point out here ten point I feel should cease at this very minute.   10. Color - Indians are obsessed with white skin. Any time a girl child is born with a dusky or dark skin, everyone, right from parents to neighbors, everyone start giving their expert advice on how to lighten the skin tone of the child. Why? What comes with the fair skin? I...

Pedophilia!

Image
Pedophilia is a psychiatric disorder in which an adult person experiences sexual attraction to prepubescent children! Kids attain puberty by the age of 10. So anyone who is at least 16 years of age and the kid is at least five years younger, then the so called attraction is medically diagnosed as pedophilia. Coming to terms of the word, a kid that age can be anything but sexually attractive! They could be charming, talented, inquisitive, rude, naughty, but not mentally prepared to have any sort of sexual encounter. And this disorder is an offence! Although science offers a word to it and maintains that its a mental illness, but seriously, can it be really considered so? I mean, you see a kid, 5 years of age, and you feel sexually attracted to the kid to such an extent that you rape him/her? I cannot see any disorder in that. I feel that person is morally sick! The kid no doubt appears to be an easy victim to satisfy the insatiable desires of one. The child would in most cases ...

Prank call, is it?

Just couple of weeks earlier we got our broadband installed and with that a new landline phone which we have given entirely to our beloved daughter! And ever since we have been getting prank calls every single day! Our days start of as usual, and then comes over our flood of calls from literally the same person, every single day! Since we have handed over our landline to our daughter so everytime it rings, she picks it up. We do not bother much because only three people have the number, as per our understanding. And those three people are me, my spouse and my mother. So we never thought of any pranksters! More so, since my daughter is just 4! Obviously no one would be giving her missed calls. She is way to young to be having boys calling her up!! So every time  the phone rings I take it casually and let her pick it up. Definitely I expect the call to be from my mom or my hubby dear! But things took a ugly turn when a prankster entered the scene. It all began with one call on...

We are all one

Religion - the belief in and the worship of some supernatural force which guides and controls the universe. With an outstanding 10,000 different religions in the world, but faith is mostly divided into four different and distinct religions! Around 84% of the worlds population is estimated to follow one of the four religions namely - Hinduism, Islam, Christianity and Buddhism. What is religion teaching anyways? Religion is just a set of beliefs. The supposition that some force exist; some super natural power that rules the world. Whenever in doubt, pray! How does prayers work? Are the 10,000 religions all teaching something different to all? Is it really the religion that saving the world? What about the atheists then? 15.35% of the population are atheists! They are nonreligious kind of people. They do not believe in any other power to take care of them but themselves! So are these people not alive? Are these people lesser human? I was born a Hindu. And I believe in Ganpa...

What is in a girl child?

The creator made every living being of two genders - female and male. It's believed he created men first. Then he thought he could definitely do better and then the product was a women! So if we are to believe the old sayings  then when God wanted to prove his acme, he made women! When the creator took pride after making women, then why not the humans? In the ancient age, when men used to go hunting and women used to stay at home and cook food and take care of the family, even then men used to worship and honor the lady of the house. As time passed, men grew arrogant and started having the feeling of their superiority over women! Then came the age when they started torturing and beating women, keeping them confined at home etc etc. In India however, women had been worshipped since time immemorial. The ancients scriptures and even architecture speaks volumes of how the women had always been valued and worshipped here. No doubts of the 33 crore God's and goddess that India h...

The Rape Culture

Image
Rape - what is it?  Originating from the Latin word “Rapere” meaning to snatch, grab or carry off! The meaning “to seize by force” came into light only in the 14 th   century. Now, this word is deep rooted in the societies and in some form or other, within marriage or outside, the “sexual violation by force” continues. By definition, any form of sexual assault which could involve penetration into a person without his/her consent. Ideally carried out forcefully, rape is always an unpleasant experience which almost always destroys the inner self respect and confidence of the human being. In most of the rape cases, the person committing the crime is well known to the victim and that’s what crushes the trust more. Rapes are crimes against humanity and have much more deplorable effect than even war! People raped, become so traumatized that they could also develop stress disorders. The victims faces abuse on the hands of the rapist too. Obviously sexually transmitted disea...

Truckers

Image
Driving a truck is no easy job! It's such a heavy vehicle and when loaded, the load is impossible. A teamster or a trucker is anyone who earns their living driving a truck! The drivers travel day and night to supply essential commodities whether finished goods or raw materials, transporting them from one place to another. These people drive any goods, be it food, industrial products or tools and vehicles. Life of a teamster involves taking care of his truck. After all, his truck is his and his family's means of economy! Typically in India, you would see them lighting incense sticks in the trucks. Decorating them with very beautiful and colorful plastic flowers, and other decors. The trucks are all colored in bright hues. The most fascinating feature of the trucks are the slogans they write behind the trucks. Some slogans like "Hum do hamare do", "Bure nazar wale tera mu Kala", and most important of all "Mera Bharat Mahan" are all fascinati...

Selfie - le le re

Image
The world is such an amazing place and there are so many things that we want to capture in photographs. Photographers travel to extreme ends of the world to capture the right image. They wait for days and months to seize that perfect shot. From animals to nature, from oldies to new born, from any random person of the street to celebrities, from food on the table to the one getting cooked. Such beautiful is the world that people are never satisfied with capturing it in snaps. The craze since a decade is selfie - a photograph of self taken ideally with a cell phone or a webcam! Mobile phones have given the freedom to everyone to capture oneself, anytime, anywhere! Although its easy and handy, selfies are actually making people more self-obsessed. Also the urge to show off to the world is also having an impact on the escalation of the process taking over the whole mankind! People ideally post these pictures into the social media - facebook, instagram, myChat, etc etc. And with this c...

The 'maid' affair!!!

Image
A house has many different things to be done on a daily basis. It's a task for anyone to be doing all the work alone. Cleaning, mopping, dusting, cooking, washing; the list goes on and on. Ideally the person at home has quite a task on hand! Doing all of them daily is the challenge! That's where helpers or maids role come in. Hiring one is another task! There would be many organizations which promise prompt service but as far my experience with these organizations goes, they are practically useless. While taking the up-front money they would woo you and even come to your home to collect the deposit amount. And then, even if you keep calling them hundreds of time when the maid doesn't show up, no one bothers to answer! Alas...Nothing can be done once money is already paid!! Another way, that we follow in India is through the word of mouth. Ask the security guard or your neighbor to send one. After explaining what all work needs to be done, what time, and how; we dis...

Culture and clothes...

Image
Today I feel the need to discuss the topic which people keep raising every now and then, Culture! And along with it comes Clothes too. Though not cognitive, yet somehow always get transpired! My belief is that Culture is in my heart. It's my ideas, customs, and my social behavior. Culture to me is not related to how I am dressed. In other words, my dressing sense doesn't define my culture neither the opposite! I am an Indian, born into a Axomia family. I love the traditional attire of my place - the very gorgeous Mekhela Sador. It's unique in its own way. I love them. And I do have a huge collection of Mekhela Sador. But I see no reason as to why I cannot wear trouser, half pants or a bikini! Does it make me lesser Axomia/Indian because I prefer to keep myself dressed in other ways? The beliefs in the heart, do they change because I am wearing a hot pant and a t-shirt? Can a lady adorn in her traditional attire not have illicit thoughts? Can a man for that matter,...

Slap, slap, slap in the air!!!

Image
Okay, I understand this issue has now become dusty. I discern that people have a memory loss and tend to forget the public affairs very soon! I obviously fathom that when it's not related to someone personally, it's easier to forget. However, I felt strongly against this and hence putting my thoughts here. Obviously I cannot be screaming about my thoughts in the air! The topic on hand is "Slapping episodes that occurred in the airplanes" of late. You might argue it's now not in news anymore so why should I keep beating around the bush. My thoughts - "Is this really acceptable?" First a well known and respected comedian and then the people elected minster! Both had some sort of obligation towards the general public and still such cheap display of acts in full audience view! This must have been done with the thoughts that no one is looking. Which only makes things more murkier. You feel such acts are acceptable in private, when no one is seeing?...

Axomia - let's unite!

Image
Assamese or Axomia, are culturally rich and sophisticated genre of people. Being born as a "Khar khua Axomia" had given me so many things to be proud of! Our heritage or our rich language, our brave spirit or our royal food! Everything is enough to make anyone crazy for our place and/or people. However I see a couple of things missing amongst us. Kindly pardon me if I am too direct in this. But it's worth giving a thought. 2. Love for our own "Axomia" language - You agree with me or not, but we do have it missing to a great extent. Why? We all like to be philosophers and learn all the languages around us. We could talk in Hindi with a Hindi speaking person, we immediately speak in Bengali with a Bengali person. There is no harm in learning new languages but for heaven's sake can we give our language atleast that much respect that in our native land we make it mandatory? It's not too much to ask for, I am sure! And make it obligatory for the Non-...

Doing something better!

Image
I have been considering myself as a novice blogger always. It's hardly been sometime. But I think it's not to be so! Of late I have been receiving some very unrelated and negative comments from people from around the world! First it made me sad. Then I slowly got used to it. And today when I receive any such unwelcome comments, I find them funny. And it definitely proves I am doing something worth noticing! Thank you! I am still forced to think what could make someone pass on indecent or stupid comments on someone else's blog. After all my blog is personal and is not targeting anyone specific. So why?! So I have come up with these points of why- 1. He/She doesn't have a life! Well yes, this got to be number one point since if someone would had had a life they would not be poking their long nose into someone else's.       This follows from the fact that maybe they do not have a loving family to support them or/and good friends either! Well whatever, mayb...

School admission...

Today would be itched in my mind, forever. Reason being, my child gave her first interview today! Schools are becoming so expensive now a days in India. And education is very competitive. Such is the competition that even for admission in pre-primary, kids need to appear for verbal tests! How lucky we had really been. Life had been so easy for us, or so to say. At the least we didn't have to worry of rhyming a poem in front of a lady, whom we were seeing for the first time in our life. I remember as a child, all I did was play. Climbing trees along with my brothers, playing cricket, getting dirty in the mud was fun for us. We obviously had no internet, mobile, or even a TV! So fun to us was getting completely grubby! Obviously we had to study. We had our scheduled time for that. Mom was very strict in that regards. But she was also the one who showed us the importance of playing. If it hadn't been her, we wouldn't had had such strong built! What she didn't inst...

Pink is not just a color...

Image
Girls - such a lovely creation of the Almighty! The rumors are that God created men and he realized that he can do much better. And hence he made women! Keeping the jokes behind, lets just concentrate on the fact that men or women, they are wonderful. Women has always been considered the weaker section of the society. In the very early years, maybe the women used to be at home and men used to fight in the jungles and get food for the family. Who knows the reality? its only some very old scriptures which depict that. Okay lets ignore that part too. In the modern era, men and women are working shoulder to shoulder. There ain't any field, be it science, astronomy, medical, engineering,  computers, nurse, hospitality, etc etc. where we do not find women. No job is now a men's job and nothing as such as women's. Men do share equal responsibilities in the household work these days. and women share their paycheck! However time and again, women has been labelled, look down...

Uri Attack and movie bans...The consequent Whys?!

Image
The Internet is flooded with too much of news on how the Bollywood film industry is reacting on the bans, how and why the Uri attack happened, how many of our soldiers died, how the Honorable Prime Minister took this matter, etc etc etc. What my question is -What is the main issue? Does anyone have an answer to that? It's nothing new, isn't it? We are attacked by our neighbors. For some days, or maximum couple of months we are all worried about what is happening to our country. And then, we are too busy with our own lives to even give a thought to it! Funny? Absolutely not. Let's have some shame and look into what's really bothering our country. It's seen that since 2015, the number of people willing to sacrifice themselves for their country has increased considerably! You might think it is good. Yes sure, if it had been for a good purpose! We are here talking of the militants! They are now more adamant to die fighting against the Indian army! Starting with...

Mirror Mirror on the wall...

Image
Interesting topic and one, widely discussed. Beauty! Well the word itself is so beautiful, isn't it? Beauty, as the very well known saying goes, lies in the eyes of the beholder. To me, beauty is about the inner beauty. Complexion, body statistics, a pretty smile or most stunning eyes, might actually have a very poor, selfish heart enclosed in its ribs! Yes, it might. And I only find people with a warm heart, beautiful! Alluring they look. When people have a handsome heart, we can actually feel it. Why, that shabby looking person who helped that old lady with her luggage, is beautiful! That person who offered the old man his seat, is charming too. And not to be forgotten, the cute child who saved the kitten from drowning. Ain't she good-looking. Sure she is! She is attractive. The encouraging words we hear from a person when we are so low and hurt. That person is pretty. The warm hug we get when we are crying, oh so beautiful. You might be thinking why I am writing ...

International Women's Day

International Women's Day (IWD) is celebrated every year on the 8th of March. History states that this was first known as International Working Women's Day. The focus is mainly to celebrate womanhood; in general love, respect and appreciate women for who they are. And obviously, why not? Women are now present in all spheres of life. Be it the economy, politics or mere social life, women are holding all the strings tight. Having said this, I am not trying to degrade men. All that is important is that men and women co-live. It should not be one ruling over the other. Rather co-existence. The focus should be on equality of sexes! Whether he or a she, the privileges and choices enjoyed by both must be same. And accepted by the society! The world is now a global village. Thanks to Internet which is slowly making the world more and more smaller and connected. Now men and women all work together in varied posts, jobs, even at home! So why should there be any differences while tre...

Language Intolerance

Image
Born and brought up in Asom, my father always used to tell us " Its good to learn more languages"! And grew up with the same belief. I still believe the same. I for myself, know around 6 Indian languages and 2 foreign! So that's not bad I assume! I find it very funny to see social network full of hatred messages on language. For heaven's sake, language? I mean why? Don't we have enough issues on hand? Can we instead bother about the other more important concerns the country is facing? Can we think of India first and then of the regions? Well, I assume not. With the spirit I get to see in the social networking sites, the hatred people pour out towards languages not their own, is simply pathetic. India is definitely in a sorry state of affairs if we are fighting such petty matters. What is language? In border terms, language is just the ability to communicate. People used to communicate in sign languages earlier. Good that languages were developed later on...
