Selfie - le le re

The world is such an amazing place and there are so many things that we want to capture in photographs. Photographers travel to extreme ends of the world to capture the right image. They wait for days and months to seize that perfect shot. From animals to nature, from oldies to new born, from any random person of the street to celebrities, from food on the table to the one getting cooked. Such beautiful is the world that people are never satisfied with capturing it in snaps.

The craze since a decade is selfie - a photograph of self taken ideally with a cell phone or a webcam! Mobile phones have given the freedom to everyone to capture oneself, anytime, anywhere! Although its easy and handy, selfies are actually making people more self-obsessed. Also the urge to show off to the world is also having an impact on the escalation of the process taking over the whole mankind!

People ideally post these pictures into the social media - facebook, instagram, myChat, etc etc. And with this comes in the competition. The useless competition of who gets more likes, who have more followers, which photo gets maximum comments. Whow! I got a shiver even thinking about it.

The younger generation of course not able to take such pressure. As though the pressure to get better marks, to fare well in sports, to be better than the older sibling, etc not enough. We now have added the social media selfie pressure too. Obviously not all have pretty faces. Not everyone would be followed by the masses. Not every soul would be a huge hit on the internet. But the competition continues. With it comes in crude ways of doing it. People now Photoshop themselves to make themselves look better. Some even go to the extent of portraying themselves as someone they are not.

However, life is actually simple. Everyone is beautiful. In their own ways, people are all appealing. Some might have pretty face and be really bad at maths. Some might be just the opposite. Some might be good at sports; others in dance. But everyone has some talent. Some might even have a very simple good heart. And that of course is the most beautiful thing a person can possess.

Self-love is important. But its different from self-obsession about looks only. Your looks don't define you. The person you are, in and out, that's what defines you. Yes, today the likes, comments, etc might seem like the world to you. One might think "Oh! I am so loved" But reality is, the social media is all fake. Fake people, fake profiles, fake comments, fake likes. You might have a huge fan following. But there would be hardly 1% people maybe who would be genuinely interested into someone else's life.

So just grow out of the shell. Breathe some fresh air! Get some real friends who can actually click your picture. Who can share your happiness and your griefs. Who can laugh at your idiotic jokes, and read your dumb blogs! Just don't be too confined in the social media circles. Or one fine day, you might just wake up and see no one really near you. Social media is to get in touch with the ones far. Doesn't mean we ignore the ones near us!

And selfies well, they are just a fag! Love yourself. Embrace yourself. And when you really get to understand the difference, I'm sure you would prefer a camera, not a mobile!
