The road trip to Goooooooaaaa!!!!!!

India has some amazing beaches; be it Rameshwaram, Kanyakumari, Pondicherry, the beaches of Kerala, Daman or Mumbai. But assuredly Goa is the King! The very small state of Goa is known as the "Konkan of Western India". Having the entire Western side bounded by the Arabian Sea, Goa is a electrifying state!

Traveloholic people tend to keep hitting the roads to be there in Goa. That's the perfect way to reach Goa. Specially people from Karnataka, which is bounding Goa in the East and the South, and from Maharashtra, bounding Goa on the North, are the ones who take the road lines. Of course people from Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh too drive down. Nevertheless, people also fly down and take the rail route to this amazing place too!!

We had been there in Goa earlier. And we decided this time too, it had to be the serene beaches of the flabbergasting place! As usual we didn't do much thinking over our journey. We just packed our bags and headed off to the roads. And there our prodigious journey gets going!!!

We started early in the morning at three thirty. We wanted to avoid the weekend rush. However, seemed like everyone had similar thoughts!

Toll, toll and more toll! Every forty kms, there is a tool booth. The amount varies from 17 to start and to a whopping max of 100!

Since we started so early so we all were wide awake by now and hungry as well. So we decided to take a breakfast break soon. However most of the restaurants were not yet open. Luckily for us by 7am, we found this cafe which looked open. We halted and decided to take a peep inside.

The restaurant was clean, and busy already! We ordered dosa and vada, typical South Indian breakfast dishes. I personally never liked vadas. So I never order that for myself. However as our ritual of feeding the first morsel to the spouse, when my better half fed me the piece of Vada, I reluctantly opened my mouth. But voila, it tasted awesome. Crisp, fluppy and hot! I ordered another one!

My doll took time to finish her dosa and this also gave my spouse some time to stretch his feet. He had been driving through.

So we started again, tummy full, about half an hour later. In the next toll booth, there was a duty change and hence more time as bonus! And cash please!

I took a power nap. That was mainly because I wanted my kid to sleep for sometime. She was starting to get bored and tired. But didn't wanted to sleep alone. So I gave her a little company. The next toll woke me up. This time 61 it was. For heaven's sake why 61? Round it off! You don't accept cards and you don't keep change. Government, are you listening?

By 10 am we were almost nearing. We had covered some 440 kms! Wow that's was impressive. With just about 175 kms more to go, felt like almost being there. But believe me that stretch of 175 seemed like unto eternity!

Crossing the western ghats was wonderful though! We could not catch up any animal other than monkeys! Finally we reached the Dudhsagar resort restaurant, exhausted and hungry. The food was delicious though the quantity seemed less when our tummies were shouting out so loud! However, we had a full lunch and moved on.

Our GPS gave way! Mobiles being battery down. Somehow we crossed the ups and downs of the way and reached our resort finally. Thankfully it is an awesome place. The roads are good. Mainly the Bangalore Mumbai highway is a treat. The state roads too not bad though much smaller. Till I write my experiences in another article...
