Pink is not just a color...

Girls - such a lovely creation of the Almighty! The rumors are that God created men and he realized that he can do much better. And hence he made women! Keeping the jokes behind, lets just concentrate on the fact that men or women, they are wonderful. Women has always been considered the weaker section of the society. In the very early years, maybe the women used to be at home and men used to fight in the jungles and get food for the family. Who knows the reality? its only some very old scriptures which depict that. Okay lets ignore that part too. In the modern era, men and women are working shoulder to shoulder. There ain't any field, be it science, astronomy, medical, engineering,  computers, nurse, hospitality, etc etc. where we do not find women. No job is now a men's job and nothing as such as women's. Men do share equal responsibilities in the household work these days. and women share their paycheck! However time and again, women has been labelled, look down

The Golden Jubilee - my 50th post

The title is funny, I know! But this is special for me. Writing the 50th post gives me an immense sense of joy and satisfaction! Never really been a writer. When I started with this blog, I didn't imagine I would come this far. But blogging has given me wings. It's a source wherein I could jot down my feelings. I started off in that way. Whether someone reads my posts or not was not my concern. I just pen down. One after the other, it just came in. I would feel a tremendous sense of relief after writing each post. Somewhere I have jotted down my frustrations, some has my recipes, some are pure feelings, some just calculated thoughts. This medium has given me a way to bring out what's deep rooted inside. I never introspect as to what Grammar, antonyms, synonyms, verbs, etc  I use. All I care about is, whatever I scribble should reach the other heart, if at all someone is reading it! If none, then too I'm never disheartened. At least my feelings are out and I feel

Uri Attack and movie bans...The consequent Whys?!

Image
The Internet is flooded with too much of news on how the Bollywood film industry is reacting on the bans, how and why the Uri attack happened, how many of our soldiers died, how the Honorable Prime Minister took this matter, etc etc etc. What my question is -What is the main issue? Does anyone have an answer to that? It's nothing new, isn't it? We are attacked by our neighbors. For some days, or maximum couple of months we are all worried about what is happening to our country. And then, we are too busy with our own lives to even give a thought to it! Funny? Absolutely not. Let's have some shame and look into what's really bothering our country. It's seen that since 2015, the number of people willing to sacrifice themselves for their country has increased considerably! You might think it is good. Yes sure, if it had been for a good purpose! We are here talking of the militants! They are now more adamant to die fighting against the Indian army! Starting with

10 things that keeps a mom tired, always!

Image
The woman who loves us unconditionally from birth, the one who puts her kids before herself and the one who you can always count on ! We literally count on her for everything. That’s what makes a mom tired. Do we care? No! Not until we are a mother ourselves. Here I state 10 reasons why moms are always tired! 1.       Perfection – Right from the day the baby is born, a mom is born too! And we all instinctively have the urge to be perfect. To be the perfect mom! This takes a toll on not only our physical health, but our mental health too! We all love our kids; everyone is struggling to do their best, every single day. Let’s accept without any shame, no one is perfect. We are all learning, daily. As our kids grow, we grow as a mother too. 2.       Availability – In the urge to be perfect, we feel like we should be available for our child 24*7. But let’s bear in our minds that we are all humans. We cannot survive without rest, the nap! There is simply no harm in seeking help. W

The cricket crazy nation!

Image
The title is self-explanatory, isn't it? We belong to this nation! Cricket is the festival here and the cricketers, God! Funny, but true. This blog of mine come up as I came across an article comparing the then and now captains of the team. I found it absolutely absurd. How can we compare two different persons, two different teams of two different times? The game of cricket is such deep rooted in our veins that even if we do not like it, we cannot really pass by a TV where the live score is flashing! Or can we? No. We, well most of my generation, have literally grown up with the craze for this game. We hardly played any other sport. Live match means we used to be glued to our television sets. This, every single day! I was such a fanatic that I once even asked my headmistress to declare a holiday because India was there playing the quarter finals! That was way back, maybe in March, 1996! Good old days. We loved the game. We cherished the victories of the team and mourn

The Gentleman's Game... Or is it?

Only on Saturday, we saw Team India defeating Team Pakistan in the league match of T20 Cricket World Cup 2016. And yesterday in yet another match, we saw Team New Zealand showing the doors to Pakistan! The point is not being the winner or the loser. We win some and lose some. But Cricket has always been known as a Gentleman's Game. But is it really so now? Didn't the captain, the very Captain of the Team Pakistan behaving in a "Not Very Gentleman's Way"! In the matches against both these teams, we saw The captain commenting on the crowd. Saying the crowd supporting them. Yes, why not Mr. Captain? It's not a big deal, really. We see crowd cheering. In every nation, there are always supporters of the opponent party too. So what? When India play South Africa in their land, we do have people in the crowd supporting India! So what? It's in the spirit of the game. Not in the political interest that the support is shown! Maybe people from Kashmir, Kolkata, T

Mirror Mirror on the wall...

Interesting topic and one, widely discussed. Beauty! Well the word itself is so beautiful, isn't it? Beauty, as the very well known saying goes, lies in the eyes of the beholder. To me, beauty is about the inner beauty. Complexion, body statistics, a pretty smile or most stunning eyes, might actually have a very poor, selfish heart enclosed in its ribs! Yes, it might. And I only find people with a warm heart, beautiful! Alluring they look. When people have a handsome heart, we can actually feel it. Why, that shabby looking person who helped that old lady with her luggage, is beautiful! That person who offered the old man his seat, is charming too. And not to be forgotten, the cute child who saved the kitten from drowning. Ain't she good-looking. Sure she is! She is attractive. The encouraging words we hear from a person when we are so low and hurt. That person is pretty. The warm hug we get when we are crying, oh so beautiful. You might be thinking why I am writing

International Women's Day

International Women's Day (IWD) is celebrated every year on the 8th of March. History states that this was first known as International Working Women's Day. The focus is mainly to celebrate womanhood; in general love, respect and appreciate women for who they are. And obviously, why not? Women are now present in all spheres of life. Be it the economy, politics or mere social life, women are holding all the strings tight. Having said this, I am not trying to degrade men. All that is important is that men and women co-live. It should not be one ruling over the other. Rather co-existence. The focus should be on equality of sexes! Whether he or a she, the privileges and choices enjoyed by both must be same. And accepted by the society! The world is now a global village. Thanks to Internet which is slowly making the world more and more smaller and connected. Now men and women all work together in varied posts, jobs, even at home! So why should there be any differences while tre

In the spirit of the game...

I couldn't really watch Asia Cup finals yesterday. Specially the India batting. I was down with viral fever and immune system just gave way! :( However, I still remember that when my spouse sneaked into the bed after watching the match, I didn't fail to ask him "Who won?" To which he gloriously replied "We"!! Not that I had doubts in my mind of who would win. Infact it was my confidence on the team that made me feel "It's okay to retire to bed. My team would do it right!". Today morning as we were discussing the match over our morning cup of tea. My hubby's eyes were glittering as he spoke of MSD. Indeed why not. He hit couple of sixes and a boundary. He made 20. He was the man who finished the match in style!! A sixer to seal the victory and with that the mouths of all the fans of the rival team who had circulated images of his severed head. Frankly I found that move very cheap. I mean I understand you love your team. I understand y

Pregnancy - the blessing - the end and the beginning!

Image
Days passed. Some very good. Some off-mood! Some outcast bad!! I was terribly moody. I had mood swings. Months passed. My spouse was there at my disposal always...he was my strength during the phase. I loved him always. Love him today but must mention, loved him more during those days!! I used to Google everything. The funny part is when my hubby would be home from work, he would in fact ask me "How is Google?". LOL. Google as in the baby!!! And I would say Google is playing. Google is stubborn. Google is kicking, etc. etc. etc. Soon I was in the eighth month. 2 weeks into it and here I was hospitalised! I had pain. Doctor thought baby would arrive sooner than anticipated. And we thought Google is on the way! I was taken in for all the scans, to check the biometrics of the fetus. Meanwhile the doctor was chatting with my spouse. She was all full of praise for me. In fact she told "Priyanka is the most intelligent pregnant lady I have met till date!" To whic

Pregnancy - the blessing continued...

So we were pregnant. The blood test report confirmed it. Next thing, go to the gynae again! We took an appointment and there we were at the chamber of the gynaecologist. Well, she wasn't impressed with the blood report. She had her own doubts! Now, she was worried if it was an  ectopic pregnancy! Holy! Ectopic? What's even that? So she drew a rough diagram and showed it to us what it could mean. To tell you the truth, we were traumatised... Ectopic pregnancy is the types where the fetus develops typically in the fallopian tubes. And hence not in the womb. As such the pregnancy needs to be immediately aborted since the baby would not grow and endanger the mother's life. Next, a scan of course. It was scheduled for the next day. Meanwhile at home, could we sleep? Naah. Neither of us. I googled and googled. We cried. I was forced to ask "Why us?" :( Anyways, next day brought us relief. The Scan was done. All was well. No ectopic nothing. It was a little somet

Pregnancy - the blessing.

Of late many of my friends are trying to conceive. Obviously, all feel age is slowly slipping out of our hands. With every passing day, our discussions are getting more and more serious. Some days I feel so depressed with all the talks and the helplessness. I can literally feel the pain, the pain they and other ladies are going through. I was quite lucky in this case. Me and hubby just had a conversation while driving down from office that maybe we need to plan a child soon. Immediately after that I went on vacation for some 3 weeks. So when I was back we both were literally too happy to be together again! And there it went. Just 20 days later we found out I was pregnant! My pregnancy was a drama in itself. I was expecting my periods and I didn't get it. I am typically the types who get nervous when things don't happen as it should be. So when my periods got delayed, I was at the gynae clinic. She asked if I could be pregnant. And obviously I wasn't sure!! So well, s

Josephians 1998 Tezpur

This topic struck me just now as I was chatting in our Whatsapp group. I am sure you all remember each and every point of these... Check'm... 1. Assembly march past sickness - Yes, we all must have made an excuse at some point of time to avoid the march past post assembly. I can see many hands raising!! 2. Sister Superior double spectacles - Do I need to even explain this? Weren't we all amused by how Sister Superior would wear her sunglasses on her head and her power glasses on her eyes, all at the same time!! 3. Zero period - How can we even miss this?! The zero period before any event in school was more of an excitement. All would just wait for the last period. 4. Acting teacher - Didn't get the correct word. But I am sure you remember how the seniors were sent to the junior classes during some Teacher's meeting or celebrations! Surely fun for both the seniors and to some extent, the juniors!! 5. Class VI - Remember the class adjacent to the toil

Just shut off

Well yes, today is yet another day. The only difference is, today I feel like shutting off. No I think I am not annoyed or something. Or maybe I am. Not very sure. Seems like just a phase. I do not know exactly what. Maybe I am just tired. Tired of trying to be a mother to a toddler who has all her moods on full display to me. Whose all bad behaviour is directed to me. Her behaviour is making me sick. I am so tired to always trying to be nice. Trying not to lose my temper. No, I never hit her. Never yell. But should that be a guarantee that I do not feel anything? I lose my cool. But I try to be composed. Though I don't spout off, I can feel my cheeks heated up at times! I am not sure if I am exactly annoyed with her. Isn't she just acting her age? Well yes, she is. So where exactly am I going wrong. Right now, I do not know. So I am shut off. I do not feel like talking to anyone. I might be wrong. But sometimes its just right to be wrong, maybe...

Agnigarh

Image
The amazing hillock,  Agnigarh  is located in the small town of Tezpur. It still stands as an eternal witness to the immortal love story of Usha and Aniruddha.  The name 'Agnigarh' is derived from the words ' Agni ' (meaning  fire ) and 'garh' (meaning fortress or wall) in  Sanskrit . History states that Usha was the daughter of King Bana, the ruler of Tezpur. The amazingly beautiful princess Usha had a mesmerizing beauty. Even the grandchild of Lord Krishna, Aniruddha was bowled over by her beauty. It is believed that Usha used to have dreams of Aniruddha. Her friend, Chitralekha used to draw images of princes of India to exactly know which is the one Usha is dreaming of. Finally Chitralekha was able to draw a portrait of Aniruddha to which Usha nodded a 'Yes'! It is believed that Aniruddha was put into jail, a fort which was surrounded by fire on all sides. In other words he was hold captive in Agnigarh. Lord Krishna was fumed at this new

Moha Bhoirob Mondir

Image
The temple of Moha Bhoirab does not require any introduction. It stands as an identity of Tezpur. Direction are shown in regards to this temple in Tezpur! Every time I visit Tezpur, I religiously visit Moha Bhoirob Mondir. My visit to Tezpur cannot be complete without it. This time too I stole an hour to be here. Moha Bhoirob, as the name indicates, is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Tezpur was ruled by King Bana earlier and he was a great devotee of the lord. Its believed he used to offer his prayers to the lord in this very temple. Moha Bhoirob Mondir has a 'linga' which is said to be one of the tallest linga  in Asia! The temple is renovated now. The main linga remains as it is. The interiors of the temple are now modernised though. But the peace of mind we attain here is beyond comparison.

The Cole Park - Chitralekha Udyan

Image
The Cole Park as it was earlier known is one of the main attraction in the small town of Tezpur! The park had been standing as a crowd pleaser since the ages. The little Children's park adjoining it and the natural water bodies all add to its charm. The park was later renamed as 'Chitralekha Udyan' after the Usha's artist friend 'Chitralekha'. The park had also been restructured. The Children's park was merged with it. A Valiant  MIG 21, the first supersonic aircraft for the Indian Air Force which is capable of travelling at Mach 2 was also installed here. Obviously the engines were removed and the plane painted to look new!  The stone inscriptions found during the Bhomoraguri Bridge were also transported and placed here to add a charisma to the already charming park.  One on side of the park a India map is also designed. One can also see a concrete Japi and gamosa beautifully scripted here. Bumping cars were also added

The land of rivers - Dhubri

Image
Dhubri - the land of Rivers! Dhubri is a small town and the administrative headquarter of Dhubri district in Assam. Situated on the bank of the mighty Brahmaputra and the Gadadhar rivers, Dhubri holds heart to historical importance! Located some 280 kms from the capital of Assam, Dhubri was first constituted in 1883. Known as the 'Land of Rivers', Dhubri sees the mighty Brahmaputra flowing through its heart from east to west. While its tributaries like Champabati, Jinjiram, Gourang, Tipkai, Gadadhar, Silai, Gangadhar, Sankosh play around the place! Dhubri was an important commercial centre and had a busy river port particularly for jute export. Dhubri District is bestowed with attractive scenic beauties by the mother nature. Like other parts of Assam, Dhubri too is bestowed with natural charm. The mighty river Btahmaputra's banks provide the lush greenary for the onlookers. The surrounding hills also give ample enjoyment to the people visiting Dhubri! Dhubri has man

One man team?

Today disastrous defeat in the hands of a very immature Sri Lanka team should work as a eye-opener for team India! Sri Lanka played well from the very first ball. And India's performance, well what should I say? The batting order collapsed like the 'tin-filled' walls in Taiwan! Okay I understand the comparison was pathetic. But didn't our team play really ... bad? Is the team slowly starting to become a 'One-Man Team' again? Previously if Sachin Tendulkar didn't play well, India would lose. And now that 'one-man' being Virat Kohli?? Why the likes of Rohit Sharma, MS Dhoni, S Dhawan, A Rahane, etc. not able to 'de-ghumake'?? So much talent in the team and still losing match after match. No, I haven't forgotten the Australia series. But let's get some facts. Team needs to buckle up. World cup is lost. We have to keep the T20 World Cup at least. All the best team.

February - A trip down the memory lanes...

February is a mixed month for me every year. On one hand, I lost my dad in this month. On the other, my hubby and my baby, both have this month as their birth month. And every year its the same story, starts off sad and filled with immense joy later on. My dad passed away on the 8th of Feb, early morning around 3am. Tragedy struck us real hard. We were young, very young. Over night it felt like we had to be matured. I wouldn't cry in front of my mother and brother thinking they would feel sorry too. And maybe they had the same feelings. But whenever alone, in the bathrooms, I would burst out. That's continued for days. Days turned into months. Months into years. Time passed by. I got a job and finally moved away from my home town. And here I met the man of my life. He was a bad guy. He irritated me. He would drive me nuts. Annoyed as I used to be, little did I notice how good he was. He made every attempt to make me happy. Finally, February started to be little better for

Majuli moi ... I am Majuli...

Image
Hello everyone, Let me take this opportunity to first introduce myself. I am "Majuli". People say, I am the largest river island in India! I lay quietly surrounded by the mighty Brahmaputra and its tributaries. Brahmaputra is the only male river in India and flows through the heart of Axom(Assam)! Having introduced myself, may I take the pleasure to be little proud of the facts I just stated! Sure I do. People in large numbers do come to visit me. Tourist swamp the region during anytime of the year. Ferries connect me to the land, on the other side of the rivers! Apart from them, I obviously have my own children, the Axomia neo-vaishnavite people and I love them. My children speak Assamese and Mising languages. History states that I am the cultural capital of Assamese civilization since the 16th century. The great guru Srimanta Sankardev himself founded satras on me! Having giving you a brief of self, let me quote some of the reasons why you should visit me! 1. T
