International Women's Day

International Women's Day (IWD) is celebrated every year on the 8th of March. History states that this was first known as International Working Women's Day. The focus is mainly to celebrate womanhood; in general love, respect and appreciate women for who they are. And obviously, why not? Women are now present in all spheres of life. Be it the economy, politics or mere social life, women are holding all the strings tight.

Having said this, I am not trying to degrade men. All that is important is that men and women co-live. It should not be one ruling over the other. Rather co-existence. The focus should be on equality of sexes! Whether he or a she, the privileges and choices enjoyed by both must be same. And accepted by the society!

The world is now a global village. Thanks to Internet which is slowly making the world more and more smaller and connected. Now men and women all work together in varied posts, jobs, even at home! So why should there be any differences while treating them?

Let me here point out some of the things I feel still needs clear thinking.

1. Choice of dress - Well, for both men or women, choice of dress is entirely their own. If a man is not dressed properly, there should not be anyone pointing out how outdated or sluggish he looks!
Similarly, if a women is dressed skimpy, it's not for you to comment.

In both the cases, it's not for you that he/she is dressed! Men or women definitely need to have their own choice. Why not? Its only one life, can one not even live it as per one's choice?

2.  Body structure and size - This is seriously even more important. Whether someone is size zero or size fifty is no body's concern! Have anyone thought in the lines like someone who you are teasing as a "hanger" or "size zero" could actually be suffering from some serious physical or mental illness? Someone who is very fat, might be similarly facing some serious depression or thyroid issues? Man, let them be themselves. Don't call names. Please!

3. Marriage - Well, to marry or not is completely one's choice. One might just be happy being single. He/She need not be called by names, for heaven's sake. Similarly, whether being heterosexual or homo, is purely a matter of choice. Don't we have the freedom to select the partner of our choice, be it the same or opposite gender?

4. Work - well,  now men and women work together. You would find women in the corporates, firefighters, drivings trains etc. Similarly let's accept that men could be baby sitting! Work is work, whether household or outside, that should not be gender biased.

5. Lovemaking - Whatever you do with mutual consent, kindly do not bring it to public forum. Whether before or after marriage is all up to the person. So keep it personal!

6. Rape - Making love and rape are two different things. Kindly don't treat them the same. If you force yourself on someone, you are raping that person. Stop that!

7. Baby - this is something for the couple to decide. If both the partners want a baby and are capable of handling the same, go for it! But do not, in any situation, endanger the life of the little one or the unborn. Having the baby is your choice. But once the baby is born, he/she is your duty. You cannot just turn your back.

I might have missed out some points. Let's debate over it. I am sure we would slowly build a better world. Let's at least start...
