Prank call, is it?

Just couple of weeks earlier we got our broadband installed and with that a new landline phone which we have given entirely to our beloved daughter! And ever since we have been getting prank calls every single day! Our days start of as usual, and then comes over our flood of calls from literally the same person, every single day! Since we have handed over our landline to our daughter so everytime it rings, she picks it up. We do not bother much because only three people have the number, as per our understanding. And those three people are me, my spouse and my mother. So we never thought of any pranksters! More so, since my daughter is just 4! Obviously no one would be giving her missed calls. She is way to young to be having boys calling her up!! So every time  the phone rings I take it casually and let her pick it up. Definitely I expect the call to be from my mom or my hubby dear! But things took a ugly turn when a prankster entered the scene. It all began with one call one fi

Too much everything is bad. My mom used to tell us this often. And over the years, I have learn that its true. Be it too much of goodness or evil. Too much of light makes us appreciate darkness. And when lights are off for much longer time,we learn to appreciate the light! Thank heavens, he maintained a sync in everything!! IPL - the Indian Premier League, professional T20 cricket league started way back in 2007. It started with eight teams. IPL is the attended by a vast number of people and is ranked sixth among all the sports league. Such is the craze of IPL that people even follow it on other platforms like youtube! IPL is mostly a money-making union! The organizers make money, the players make money, the channels make money. Who loses money really? The people, the common people. After all people pay to see the matches! Apart from them everyone makes money. MS Dhoni, the highest paid player in 2007-08. Price paid was $1.25 million. This numbers kept increasing over t

Weird beauty techniques throughout the world!

Everyone in the world wish to look beautiful. And with this wish came in the struggle to maintain oneself, always! Throughout history men and women have been striving to look and maintain their facial and body image. With Class distinctions came in different sets of makeup strategies being used. However we see that cosmetic has been interwoven into the human civilization. Turning the pages in history, we can find numerous ways that were used by our ancestors to look and feel pretty! However, not all means were good! Here I list down some of them which I find weird! 10. Neck rings -  Neck rings have been used in Africa and Asia, to make the neck look and grow longer. A girl child would be made to wear it right from birth and every year the  number of rings would just keep increasing. The belief is that, women with longer necks look appealing! How much of it is true, is history! 9. In Ancient Rome, n ail color was made using animal fat and blood, creating a pink and red tint!

Indian Women, Makeup and more!

Image
Women have been experimenting with makeup since time immemorial! Indian literature has been describing the beauty of our women always! The architecture has not been lagging behind too. Ancient civilizations had displayed masterpieces of art and culture; portraying beauty of women. Such beautiful creation of God that humans cannot  keep themselves from being blind-founded by them. Women on the other hand are never satisfied with their own look. They always want some means to make themselves more pretty! There is of course no harm in it. Why not enhance looks when it is possible? Women since ancient ages have applied many things on their skin and hair to get different results. They have taken different medicines, tried different ways to  enhance their allure! Right from applying eye makeup, to lip color, painting their nails, wearing neck wear to increase their neck length, wearing crete, breast enhancers and binders, bodice etc; women have tested them all. In India, women have

Life with A four year old

Life with a child is a challenge always. You might think what's new about it. We all know that. Everyday is a new day and the kids can show very different and interesting things everyday! My kid is now four and life with her is turning out to be a real ultimatum. The remonstrance she shows every single day feels like a trial every day! The little one's mind runs in different direction and they have the energy to keep exploring their inquisitiveness in an unending manner. But for me as a mom, it's a hunting task to keep answering every question of hers and keep running behind her all the time. I feel its not my task really to be all the time entertaining my child. Although I like spending time with her, but I want her to be self entertaining. Hence I have now restricted myself a bit. I sit down and play with her for sometime and then ask her to do it herself. I am there, somewhere around and not completely loosing track of what she is doing. I keep a watch on her. An

Religion - the belief in and the worship of some supernatural force which guides and controls the universe. With an outstanding 10,000 different religions in the world, but faith is mostly divided into four different and distinct religions! Around 84% of the worlds population is estimated to follow one of the four religions namely - Hinduism, Islam, Christianity and Buddhism. What is religion teaching anyways? Religion is just a set of beliefs. The supposition that some force exist; some super natural power that rules the world. Whenever in doubt, pray! How does prayers work? Are the 10,000 religions all teaching something different to all? Is it really the religion that saving the world? What about the atheists then? 15.35% of the population are atheists! They are nonreligious kind of people. They do not believe in any other power to take care of them but themselves! So are these people not alive? Are these people lesser human? I was born a Hindu. And I believe in Ganpa

Puri - the land of the Lord!

Image
2006 was the year when I visited Puri. My aunt had some official tour and she asked if we, me and my mom wanted to join in. My mom and me had always been ardent believers of the Lord Jagannath. And we invariably wanted to visit that place and see him with our own eyes. And when we saw the opportunity, we didn't wanted to let it go! Bags packed, off we went for a Odisha tour. The Eastern India state of Odisha is the proud host of the Lord Jagannath. The small City of Puri being here. Puri is around 60 kms to the South of Bhubaneshwar, the capital of Odisha and laid strategically by the Bay of Bengal! Puri known as "Shrikhetra" locally and the very majestic "Jagannath Temple" is called as "Badadeula", meaning the biggest home! Around 80% of the economy of the town comes in from the religious activities devoted to the lord himself. Jagannath temple observes some 24 festivals! 12 months and 24 festivals - typical Indian Society, what say? The sublime

One rainy afternoon

Monsoon is here in Bangalore, much early as compared to it's history! Although it's believed to be the months of June to September when it rains here and kind of makes the city shiver with cold. Its arrival so early this year is making us quiver now, much before we could get the warmth of Summer!  I first visited this place in 2007. And my bad, I was here in June. So monsoon it was. I was a fresher that time and was campus placed here with an MNC. Supposed to join on July 2nd so we arrived in time, by 28th of June. I had been suffering from some viral fever and the rains made it worse. The company accommodation was in Bellandur. Where the hell is Bellandur? The moment I got down at the  Krantivira Sangolli Rayanna railway station, ie the Bangalore railway station, I had exactly that question in mind. With the rain drizzling and no autos to rescue and me pulling my luggage, the first entry into Bangalore was gloomy! Managing an auto,  we started to ply through

The land of Raas - Mathura and Vrindavan

Image
"Yamuna ke tat par Nachita kanhaiya Tat trum thaiya Bajita payeliya Ta thaiya ta thaiya" And Yamuna par it is. Mathura - the sacred city and the birth place of Lord Krishna. Mathura lies on the banks of the river Yamuna. The place has some 22 ghats of which Vishram ghat being considered the holiest. As a little girl, I grew up to stories of Mathura and Vrindavan. My maternal granny was a devotee and had visited these places long back. She had all fortales to tell us. And me, being the Theist that that I'm, fell in love with these places even before I could actually visit them. My granny used to tell me how Sri Krishna still roams around the place and keeps a watch on the people. I still remember her story of when a little boy visited a sweet shop. It seems he took some sweets and when the shop keeper asked for money, he handed over a gold bangle. The next day the news spread that someone has stolen a bangle belonging to the Sri Krishna idol in the m

What is in a girl child?

The creator made every living being of two genders - female and male. It's believed he created men first. Then he thought he could definitely do better and then the product was a women! So if we are to believe the old sayings  then when God wanted to prove his acme, he made women! When the creator took pride after making women, then why not the humans? In the ancient age, when men used to go hunting and women used to stay at home and cook food and take care of the family, even then men used to worship and honor the lady of the house. As time passed, men grew arrogant and started having the feeling of their superiority over women! Then came the age when they started torturing and beating women, keeping them confined at home etc etc. In India however, women had been worshipped since time immemorial. The ancients scriptures and even architecture speaks volumes of how the women had always been valued and worshipped here. No doubts of the 33 crore God's and goddess that India h

Lost my best friend to time....

One fine day we are born to someone whom we call parents. Relationship gets forced on us ever since. He is your brother, she is your sister. Cousin, aunty, uncle, granny, etc. As we grow up we realise we do not gel well with some of the relatives we have. We certainly prefer some over the others. However we cannot just give them up, since we share a blood bond! Through the perplexing journey called life, God gives us the previlidge to select other human being who we like, with whom we get along well! And those lovely ones, are called friends!! Friends! They are such amazing people. They make us laugh, they cry with us, give us a slap when we are crap. They encourage us, and get down on knees to pick us up. They attend our call at 2am! Some who pick us up from a bus stand! They tend to laugh at the same stupid jokes we crack! Somehow we share a chemistry which doesn't exist with anyone else! A relationship where we have the same level of maturity and craziness! I was lucky to

The Rape Culture

Image
Rape - what is it?  Originating from the Latin word “Rapere” meaning to snatch, grab or carry off! The meaning “to seize by force” came into light only in the 14 th   century. Now, this word is deep rooted in the societies and in some form or other, within marriage or outside, the “sexual violation by force” continues. By definition, any form of sexual assault which could involve penetration into a person without his/her consent. Ideally carried out forcefully, rape is always an unpleasant experience which almost always destroys the inner self respect and confidence of the human being. In most of the rape cases, the person committing the crime is well known to the victim and that’s what crushes the trust more. Rapes are crimes against humanity and have much more deplorable effect than even war! People raped, become so traumatized that they could also develop stress disorders. The victims faces abuse on the hands of the rapist too. Obviously sexually transmitted diseases and p

It's better to travel well than to arrive -                                                                   Buddha And hence comes this article! Every journey is always so enticing! Getting to see different places, meeting new people, experiencing new adventures, tasting new cuisines; all these makes a tour worth remembering forever! And when the destination is Goa, the travel is worth every penny! The western India's state of Goa has it's west side guarded by the grand Arabian Sea itself. This small state is making it's money from mining, tourism and pharmaceuticals! Economic survey showed a dip in tourism growth rate in 2016 which was mere 19.55%, as compared to 2015 when it was 30.55%. However, the number of tourist visiting this place every year never sees a diminution! Such is the furor of this place that people cannot keep themselves away from it! We too are no different of course! So we headed to this fascinating place when we had a long we

Truckers

Image
Driving a truck is no easy job! It's such a heavy vehicle and when loaded, the load is impossible. A teamster or a trucker is anyone who earns their living driving a truck! The drivers travel day and night to supply essential commodities whether finished goods or raw materials, transporting them from one place to another. These people drive any goods, be it food, industrial products or tools and vehicles. Life of a teamster involves taking care of his truck. After all, his truck is his and his family's means of economy! Typically in India, you would see them lighting incense sticks in the trucks. Decorating them with very beautiful and colorful plastic flowers, and other decors. The trucks are all colored in bright hues. The most fascinating feature of the trucks are the slogans they write behind the trucks. Some slogans like "Hum do hamare do", "Bure nazar wale tera mu Kala", and most important of all "Mera Bharat Mahan" are all fascinati
