Indian Women, Makeup and more!

Women have been experimenting with makeup since time immemorial! Indian literature has been describing the beauty of our women always! The architecture has not been lagging behind too. Ancient civilizations had displayed masterpieces of art and culture; portraying beauty of women. Such beautiful creation of God that humans cannot  keep themselves from being blind-founded by them.

Women on the other hand are never satisfied with their own look. They always want some means to make themselves more pretty! There is of course no harm in it. Why not enhance looks when it is possible? Women since ancient ages have applied many things on their skin and hair to get different results. They have taken different medicines, tried different ways to  enhance their allure!

Right from applying eye makeup, to lip color, painting their nails, wearing neck wear to increase their neck length, wearing crete, breast enhancers and binders, bodice etc; women have tested them all. In India, women have followed very unique makeup ideas right from days bygone.

India have typically been obsessed with the color of the skin; the fair skin. Such is the obsession that it was almost a crime to be born with a darker shade! And hence all the different means to make a lady fair by using conventional and unconventional means. Right from the past, turmeric(haldi) had been used  as a skin tone enhancer in India. Taking bath with milk or using rose petals, fuller earth stone; all have been used to get a better skin color. Even pregnant ladies are not spared. In order to have a fair child, carrying ladies are made to drink saffron milk!

People have been known to use skin-bleaching agents since long time. In early days, using costos root, sesame seeds, cedar wood, barberry wood, pongamia pea leaves and lebbeck leaves. All the ingredients  would be mixed together and crushed to powdery form, mixed with milk or water and applied on body. Lentils mixed with honey is still used. Apart from these we also do have the chemically prepared bleaching agents to apply on the skin and hence to make a tone fairer!

For eye makeup too, Indians have used several techniques. from making kajal using earthen lamp, oil and putting a cover over it! Scientific, indeed. Kohl was also used which was made by grinding stignite. Such is the belief in kohl, that women used to apply it even to infant right after their birth. Beliefs were different in different places. Some did it to "strengthens the child eyes" while some to cast away evil eye. However, kajal remains a important makeup element not only in India, but worldwide even today!

To get red lips, ladies in the Mughol era used to chew betel nuts! And it continued for years. Now obviously there are too many shades of lipcolors and too many brands to choose from. Thanks to the advancement of science in the cosmetic department!

To color the nails, we had heena! Heena was also used to color hair. and it is still used. Known for its medicinal values, heena is much popular even today. Nail paints and hair color though have become popular and used excessively.

Apart from all these there are many more beauty products in the market, mascara, blush, foundation etc, which help a modern lady to enhance her looks easily. Beauty is always a treat to the eyes! So ladies, keep yourself beautiful, keep applying makeup, keep looking gorgeous!
