Evils in Indian Society!

We are in the twenty first century and still there are so many traditions and thoughts prevalent in the societies that can suck out humanity from any sensible person's mind! Few things I have seen in my time till now, have sort of put me into thinking if everyone in the world is having such thoughts  or something is extraordinarily special about our place, India!

India, the sacred land, where women had been considered as next to God! The place where there is no bound to religion. A secular country that India is! However, somethings are fundamental in the very existence of the societies here. Some evils which need to be eradicated. I point out here ten point I feel should cease at this very minute.  

10. Color - Indians are obsessed with white skin. Any time a girl child is born with a dusky or dark skin, everyone, right from parents to neighbors, everyone start giving their expert advice on how to lighten the skin tone of the child. Why? What comes with the fair skin? Is she given more respect? No. Is she not raped? No. Nothing like that. But still color mania remains!

9. Periods - You have periods? Stay in your room! Do not touch the pickle! Do not go to the temple! Why? Did God ever say that? How is having periods related to pickle? Mensuration related to God? Isn't he who gave the reproduction capability to women? So why would he want them to be away from him? All I can say is, sick!

8. Dress  - A girl child means dress properly. What is proper by the way? Is a sari proper? Why not a jeans and a t-shirt? Isn't the sari showing much more skin than a t-shirt? But no, every day, a lady is being told on what and how to be dressed, what is deemed okay! Alas!

7. Cooking - Oh such a pity, she does not know cooking! What is she going to do after her marriage? I am a women, not a cook! Why should only a women know cooking? Is she not qualified? Is she not privileged to play in the fields?

6. Slut shaming - "She has so many boy friends. Oh, she is a slut!" "She is always in jeans. What else can you expect from a slut". Seriously?? Do you know better than her? She is just living her life, wearing whatever she wants! And definitely, she is not a slut. Rather you are sick!

5. Acid attack -  "How dare she reject my proposal?" Destroy her life, destroy her pride, her beautiful face. Throw acid on her! For heavens sake, if she rejects you, go try and change your ways. And find someone else. She is just not interested in you.

4. Widow - " A widow in a marriage ceremony?" She needs to be restricted in a room. Not be made to roam about freely. A widow should not have a life, wear only whites, shave off her hair too! And remarriage? That's a crime! 

3. Luck - Son got married. Meets with an accident. His mother - "It's all because of that girl. She is the bad luck for my son" Grow up. And get a life. Its not the Daughter-In-Law who is unlucky, its your mentality which is rotten.

2. Rape - This is another disgusting trend going on now a days, with the highest number of rapes reported here as compared to anywhere else in the whole world! Does it even need an explanation?

 
1. Dowry - "We have made our son an Engineer, 25 Crores for him". Selling off their sons! Right from the time a daughter is born, parents have only one thought - Save money for her marriage. Why? Invest that in her education. And if no one marries her, she can feed herself! Don't let dowry continue. Its deep-rooted but we all have to pull it together to uproot it finally.

India, wake up. Lets end these mentalities and crimes. Let's give women the right to live as she wants. We are so advanced in science and technology, lets now advance our thoughts too!
