Why Assam is protesting against #CAB

CAB: the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, passed in December 2019. The Parliament of India amended the Citizenship Act of 1955 to grant a citizenship status to the Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, Parsis and Christians from Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Pakistan, who entered India before 31st of December 2014.

Why Assam is reacting: The earlier date was 1951 for the rest of India and 1971 for Assam. Assam was already bearing the burnt of 20 long years as compared to the rest of India. Does the rest of India even understand how many more of migrants are already considering Assam to be their home due to that 20 years difference? Do you understand how the Indigenous  people are suffering? Do you understand that the illegal migrants are known as ‘mia’ and we, are known as ‘Axomia’. Do you know that these illegal migrants have made a mockery of our ‘Axomia’ culture and that very word and says that Assam means ‘Assam for mia’. Seriously? Do you understand that we fear we would lose our identity if we allow more migrants to our state?

Over the years, the influx of migrants to peace loving state of Assam has only raised exponentially. These migrants being mainly from Bangladesh. Year on year, the prosperous state of Assam, earlier called ‘Xonor Asom’ meaning ‘The Gold Assam’ is now so poor and filthy that we, the indigenous people, fail to recognise it. Our homeland is a home to people of all religions, caste, creed. However this fight, this uproar is not against any religion, caste, language or creed. Its not against humanity. Its but to save the identity of ourselves.

Over some years, the whole of India would realise what #Assam is protesting for now. We have already gone through it. We do not want you to face it too. We have seen the birth of terrors in our homeland. We do not want you to see it too.

The people of Assam are all peace loving, easy going, caring. The terror activities that are being carried out are not us. Yes, our people are protesting. But we are not  the ones creating the ruckus. Yes, we are protesting and we would. We want to keep our identity intact. We wish our next generation to be able to claim that its their land. Not be minorities in their very home land. We are protesting and we would against everyone who wish to crush our identity underneath their foot. If need be, we would break those feet too.
