Cold, and cough!

Been almost like two weeks that we are suffering from cold! First the toddler at home, followed by me and finally my hubby! Cold cold cold, give us a break, man! We are so tired of stuffy noses at night and running noses in the day time. So bugged up of the shooting temperature at nights and absolutely normal feeling during the day! Really fed-up.

I am sure some of you must also be suffering from the same. What say? Anyways, let me state some home remedies here so that you can feel better at the comfort of your own home! These measures obviously after keeping yourself warm first!

1. Basil - the best cure of cough and cold. Basil is a low-calorie herb and is rich in antioxidants. It also has anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties which soothe the throat. You can chew it directly or get a spoonful of juice and take it.

2. Ginger - Ginger has properties to comfort the sore throats and reduce cough and cold. I make a paste and extract a few drops of juice into a spoon. Mix it with honey if you want.

3. Honey - Honey as we all know has anti-bacterial properties. It gives a calming effect to itchy throat and hence controlling the tendency to cough. You can take it directly out of the can!

4. Garlic - Garlic acts mostly as a preventive measure. Nevertheless, I did use garlic. As per a traditional way used in our home, I just roasted it over gas and when its slightly black, have it directly. Simple.

Another that can be done and which, I usually do is, put some garlic cloves in little mustard oil. Heat it over flame till we smell the mustard oil. Let it cool a bit. Apply this to the foot. Helps to bring about heat in the body which helps indirectly in cold.

5. Steam - ofcourse, how can we forget steam. Steam inhalation moist the nasal way and the lungs and hence cleaning the blocked nose and makes breathing easy.

There would be many more methods. But these five helped me clear cough and cold. Hope not to fall ill again this season. And wishing you health too.
